The Selma Elementary 1st grade classes spent the last week learning about different helpers in our community in preparation for their Community Helper Day on Friday. What is Community Helper Day you may ask? The 1st grade teachers invited some community helpers to the school to teach the kids about what their job consists of. They brought in a firefighter, police officer, EMT, and a recycling center employee (who was the favorite). The students get hands-on experience being able to see in person the cars and equipment that their helpers use on a daily basis. The teachers believe that Community Helper Day is important for their 1st graders because it allows their students to get a fun and in-depth insight to the people who are helping their community. It also allows the students to get a better appreciation for the helpers. Thank you so much to our volunteers for coming out and giving our 1st graders a great day!
