Welcome Wapahani Fans to another year of WHS Athletics! I am Matt Luce, the Wapahani Athletic Director. We are excited and gearing up in the WHS Athletic Department for another successful season of memories, team togetherness, and of course victories on the field and court in 2016-2017! The 2015-2016 Wapahani Raider Athletic Programs had great success all across the board. The Boys and Girls XC teams ran and competed at an extremely high level. The boys team qualified again for the 2016 Semi-State and return several experienced and driven runners that look to take our XC program to another level! The Raider Girls Golf program had a successful and competitive season as they continue to grow each year. Junior Emily Rausch qualified for the IHSAA Girls Golf Regional and the girls finished a close 2nd at the MEC Championships. We are excited to announce Coach Brad Miller will now be leading both our Girls and Boys Golf programs. The Boys and Girls Soccer Programs continued to show great improvement and momentum towards success led by Coach Henderson and Coach Zeiger respectively. We are looking forward to watching these 2 teams compete all season long but especially on our new home field that has been completely rebuilt and will provide a great home playing surface. Finally, the fall season at WHS ended with a bang as the Raider Girls Volleyball program led by Coach Richardson won our 4th overall IHSAA State Championship with a huge win over Speedway. The girls have been in the gym all summer and excited for the upcoming season.
The winter athletic season at Wapahani saw the addition of Coach Cutter to the Girls Basketball Program and Coach Delk to the WHS Wrestling Program. Both of these men were great additions to our school and are concerned with success now but also about building the WHS youth programs in their respective sports. The Wapahani Girls program had a great year finishing 19-5 overall and winning the 2016 Delaware County Tourney. The Wrestling program made positive strides and will make a huge jump this year with larger participation and overall competitiveness. Finally, the WHS Boys Basketball program finished 17-8 overall, which is their 9th straight winning season at the varsity level! This is an awesome accomplishment for all involved and the strong youth program in the Selma Schools look to continue this success.
The Spring Season at Wapahani saw great team success along with some incredible individual talent. The baseball team and Coach Dudley had another outstanding season and saw Senior Zack Thompson (Kentucky recruit) be selected in the 11th round of the MLB Draft. The WHS Softball team led by Coach Glancy won the 2016 Lapel Sectional. Senior Kaija Aikman (Kentucky State recruit) was a great leader on the mound and at the plate. The WHS Boys Golf program had a great season and saw 3 Seniors (Connor Hensley, Bryant Woodard, and Jourdan Hill) qualify for the regional. The WHS track program led by Coach Stevenson and Coach Mullikin continue to increase participation which has led to overall success within our track program. The girls qualified Senior Corissa Bower and the 4x100 relay team for the 2016 regional while the boys qualified Senior Drew Barber, Super Sophomores Alex and Nathan Herbst, Junior Austin Roy, and Senior Bryce Witter for the regional.
Hope to see you this season to support our WHS Athletes! Go Raiders!
